Other sources (Obituary) say Jan 7th 1867, which would make more sense given that Mollie was born in November of that year. Catherine's Widow's Pension application says June 6th, 1867. |

Catherine C. (Monts) (Johnson) West

Aged Woman Dies At Local Hospital
Burial Chatfield
Mrs. S. H. West, aged 81 years, resident of Corsicana for 32 years, died at the Navarro county hospital at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon and the funeral cortege left the Sutherland Undertaking Parlors at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning for Chatfield, where interment was made. She was a member of the Methodist church.
Surviving are seven children as follows: Mrs. B. K. Downey, Frost; J. O. Johnson, Frost; Mrs. Della Wooley, Frost; Mrs. Mollie Armstrong, Corsicana; Mrs. Joe Brannon, Shannon, Miss.; Mrs. Ben Long, Fort Worth, and Sam West, Powell. A large number of grandchildren also survive. Mrs. West was born in Mississippi.

Catherine C. Monts Johnson West was my great-grandmother. She was born in June 1843 in Itawamba County Mississippi. She married Allen Johnson on Nov. 9, 1859. They had one son, Jessie. Allen Johnson died in the Civil War on January 21, 1862. She married Samuel Houston West on January 7, 1867. She died August 1, 1927.
