Narrative
My father worked for a short while as a street car conductor, for the San Francisco Trolley Car Company. Later he went to work for the Port of San Francisco as a long shoresman. This became his career until his retirement in the 1960's as a Walking Boss at the Port of Stockton. My brother's Clarence & Clifford also worked as Walking Bosses for the Port of San Francisco, where Clifford retired in the 1970's.
When we lived on the ranch in Manteca, and I was very small, I remember going to the Port of Stockton and looking up at those "BIG,BIG" ships, and being afraid of falling into the "ocean", water between the dock and ship. My father worked up in the tower and we could go up & visit with him often. However, those were very big steps for a little girl to climb. Everyone knew my father and liked him. I could always hear people saying, "Hi, George! How are you, George! He always had a great big smile and a hardy handshake. I was always so proud of "MY DADDY"! - Arlene Teller Duncan
