Narrative

was born at the San Gabriel Mission near Los Angeles. He served as a Corporal at the San Gabriel Mission in 1813 and served at the San Diego Presidio soon after. He saw California ruled by Spain, Mexico, the Republic of California and the United States.

San Diego Dedicated Building in Old Town

San Diego officials dedicated the first restored building in the city's Old Town, which is being developed as a State Historical Park. The building, a home built by Cpl. Jose Manuel Machado of the Mexican army in 1830-1836, is called the Machado-Stewart Adobe.
