Obituary
Raleigh Cannon, 81, of Mountain Park passed away peacefully on July 19, 2011. He was born in Atlanta on April 8, 1930 and grew up in Carrollton, GA where he was very active in Boy Scouts and proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1947 and from Darlington School in 1948. He attended Georgia Tech and honorably served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. He then received his degree in civil engineering from Southern Tech and began his career with the Army Corps of Engineers. Raleigh had a distinguished career in engineering and construction and retired from Crawford Properties in 1995. He was also a Mason and a life member of Carroll Lodge, No. 69, F. & A. M. "The Old Goat" would say "I done what I could," but he will be remembered by all who knew him as a strong man with a gentle heart who brought joy, love, and laughter into the lives he touched. He is survived by his loving wife Cissy, daughter Cristi Dixon (David), grandchildren Mark (Erin), Cannon, and Caroline, sisters Cary Prokopovich (William) and Gloria Brown (Bob), sisters-in-law Marcile Clark and Mary Price Eckstein (Dick), brother-in-law Briggs Arrington, and many nieces and nephews. A service celebrating Raleigh's life will be held on Sunday, July 24 at 2 P.M. at Carrollton Presbyterian Church, 14 Maple Street, Carrollton, GA with a reception immediately following. Raleigh chose to have his body donated to the Emory School of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carrollton Presbyterian Church or the Boy Scouts of America.
