Hello : )

My name is Gorden, [Private]. I am descended from Perry D. Durham and Mattie Zula Donaldson Durham's daughter Hassie Jewell Durham Batson Hughes.

Would you be so kind as to explain to me why the man I know as Perry D. Durham is called on your page, Carter Perry Durham? And, how do you know that the photos you have are of the right person? I'm not trying to be insulting, merely careful.

I don't have either of the photos you posted, but do have one you don't, and would be happy to share mine as you have made yours available.

Please contact me by email using: [Private]

Sincerely,

Gorden, [Private]

It took much research and comparison to confirm that Carter Perry and Perry D were the same person. You must keep in mind the inconsistencies that occured in census records back in the day. The photo [Now labeled "PerryDurham" in photos.] was from my grandfather's collection. He was Gaston, Uncle Jewell's brother.

Narrative

Dear Gorden, [Private],

I am [Private, Private]. Tabitha Jane Durham was my great grandmother (I called her Grandma) and wife of Carter Perry Durham. I knew Grandma quite well. She lived the last years of her life in a house next to us in Longview, Texas that we built for her oldest daughter, Willie Belle Durham McGlathery, my grandmother, and her husband Hugh Monroe McGlathery. Grandma was a good old soul, full of life and always fun with us kids. Her daughter, Willie Belle was a bit dour but married to a wonderful and fun loving husband, Monroe, whom we all called Papa. I didn't know about Perry until much later in life. He married Grandma when she was 13, fathered 12 children, then left her and the children. My grandmother's youngest son, my uncle Noel, visited some of our Durham-Donaldson relatives many years ago. I believe he met them in Florida. I don't know of Perry's parents. Here are a few photos you may find interesting.

Thank,

[Private]

Narrative

From Nancy: "The info on Perry's parents that I have are William K. Durham born 1815 - 1822 died 1869 or 1870 married Malinda Alexander born 1825 died after 1870 they married before 1846. I'm sure this is the family because 4 of the children's names match from a letter I have they are: Malinda "Lindy", Leanard "Leen", Fannie and Molly. I have his father as Daniel Durham, mother as Gazella Moody."
