My Grandmother (Elizabeth Wright) divorced him, her husband (Henry Joseph Fuqua and was consequently "disgraced for life" as she told me. I think her husband had a terrible temper. I image the war had something to do with it as he was a northern sympathizer and most of her people were with the south. I believe her father had a large number of slaves and was very well to do. Elizabeth Fuquay took her 3 children, joined a train of prairie schooners and came to CA. She came to San Diego and reared the children.
